I am a Social Worker at Somerset County Council and I have been here for 2 months. The county is vast in terms of the people you meet and the geographical locations. Working and travelling within the county allows you to see some beautiful scenery, I can see the Quantock hills looking out of the office windows.
Somerset County Council offers a wide range of training and development opportunities and it feels that there is a supportive encouragement for colleagues to continually improve their knowledge and skills. I feel that this is important when working within adult social care as the law, policy and procedures change, so we have to be skilled to adapt with them.
It is an exciting time within Somerset County Council as there is a big effort to develop the continuous improvement of the way in which adult social care works. Colleagues are at the centre of the ideas and changes being made within the locality, which aims to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the way in which we work. Being heard and seeing improvements prompted by your ideas, really promotes a sense of pride and value within my role. Somerset County Council is investing in ways to develop and continually improve. This is a great time to join a County Council recognising the ideas of colleagues and making huge efforts to improve the adult social care service.”
