I am now coming to the end of my Social Work degree and I have had such an enjoyable experience on my final placement in Adult Social Care in Somerset – it is hard to capture through words how it has enhanced my knowledge, skills and value base and also my confidence.

I am so truly grateful I was provided with this opportunity. I have had the pleasure of working with the Adult Safeguarding Team and the Care Home Support Team for the duration of 80 days. This combined placement with Somerset County Council and the Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group has given me a fantastic insight into Health and Social Care integration.

The variety of work undertaken, as well as effective supervision with my supervisor, has enabled me to develop and demonstrate how I am achieving the professional expectations of a newly qualified Social Worker. Both of the teams have highlighted and sourced opportunities in which I have been able to enhance my capabilities.

I have been provided with constructive feedback throughout and encouraged to reflect openly. The ‘can do attitude’ of all the staff I have worked has really shone through, regardless of austerity I have seen how the workforce remains ‘customer focussed’, and always puts the individuals at the heart everything they do.

I would like to give a huge thank you to the Safeguarding Team and the Care Home Support Team. Thank you to you all, for the endless support you have given me and for keeping the historical routes and values of Social Work alive.
