We’re putting care in the spotlight
Look out for Somerset’s adult social care in the news, helping push the challenges facing social care into the national spotlight.
A Panorama crew spent ten months following and filming our fantastic staff, showcasing the work of our inspirational social workers, OTs, providers, health colleagues, voluntary and community groups.
The resulting two, hour-long films will be broadcast at 9pm on Wednesday 29 May and 5 June. They spell-out the urgent need for a long-term plan to sustainably fund social care and serious national debate about the future of care.
We got involved with the project because we’re proud of what we do and want to play our part in banging the drum for care. Please tune in and help kick-start the debate.
Alison Holt, BBC Social Affairs Correspondent: “We know it took courage for the council to let us follow its staff as they juggle the needs of families against tight budgets, but it is hard to think of a more important issue than how we care for people who are older and disabled. Somerset is playing a key role in raising this issue up the national agenda.“
